Jim Butler
Jim Butler was born in Dublin and currently lives in Cambridge where he leads the M.A. in Illustration & Book Arts at Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University.
He takes his inspiration from the urban environment and draws with ink and collage directly on location. His interests range from architecture, streetscapes and the people who bring the urban environment to life, to shop signs, vernacular typography and road markings. As well as drawing and collage, he works across a range of printmaking techniques. His artist's books are hand printed and bound by the artist in small editions and these have been bought by many world-leading collections. His commissioned illustration work has included clients such as Adidas, Siemens and New Island Books.
In 2018 he won the World Illustration Award for his artist's book "Blackrock Sequence”, a collaboration with a poet exploring the South Dublin coastline
